Leona Barbara Smith

Leona Barbara Smith, age 82, of Pinckneyville, died Monday, October 2, 2000 at 6:50 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit.
	Leona was born on February 20, 1918 in Tamaroa, the daughter of Leo and Clara (Szczepanski) Wepiewski.  She married Severin Smith on November 9, 1949 in Tamaroa and he survives.  She worked with Western Union Telegraph Company for six years and was a homemaker.  She was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and was a former 4-H leader.  She enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers, cooking, dancing, her children and their families.
	Survivors include her husband, Severin, of Pinckneyville; a son, Patrick Smith of Herrin; three daughters, Clara Elaine Dreas and husband Donald of Walnut Hill, Joan Baumer and husband William Michael of Byron and Bernadette Hanson and husband Robert E. Jr. of Metropolis; two sisters, Regina Grabowski of Tamaroa and Bernice Farrel of Parker, Colo.; six granddaughters, Renee (Dreas) Nowitzki and husband Shawn, Melissa Dreas, Era Joel Baumer, Shannon Baumer, Jessica Hanson, Madison Robb Smith; a step-grandson, James M. Hanson; one great-grandson, Jordon Nowitzki and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
	She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
	Funeral Mass was held Friday, October 6, 2000 at 10 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church with Father John Venegoni and Father James Van Oss officiating.  Interment was in the St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery in Todds Mill.  The Rosary was said on Thursday at 8 p.m.
	Visitation was held at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. and on Friday from 8 until 9:30 a.m.
	Memorials may be made to the St. Bruno School in Pinckneyville and Hospice of Perry County.
